Winchester Friends of the Earth invites you to sign the Cut the Carbon petition to ask Winchester City Council to adopt a planning policy to use energy more efficiently and supply energy through on-site renewable technologies.
Silver Hill. This is the major re-development of part of the town centre. Winchester Friends of the Earth think it will release nearly 7,000 tonnes of carbon through construction and a further 7,000 per year afterwards through its energy use. The planned scheme does very little to minimise energy use and contains no on-site renewable technology. Just as you thought the climate change message was understood!!
Local Development Framework. Winchester City Council is consulting upon the Local Development Framework, the rules under which it will permit buildings to be built in the future. Winchester Friends of the Earth believe that the new plan should ensure that significant developments must include on-site renewable energy equipment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This kind of rule is not radical and is actually advised by Government and adopted by many other local authorities.
